Our St. Joseph Health System mission asks us to translate our values into action -- to strive for excellence while serving people with dignity and working for justice within our communities.
We believe we have a social responsibility and a moral obligation to respond to the needs of the lower-income families and individuals served by our ministries.
In 1986, St. Joseph Health System established the SJHS Foundation to assist people unable to afford health care services by providing grants to non-profit community service organizations.

SJHS Foundation funding is distributed according to the following formula:
- 75 cents of each dollar the Foundation receives from each local facility is returned directly to facility it came from to support the community benefit projects in their communities
- 7.5 cents is distributed by the SJHS Foundation Endowment
- The remaining 17.5 cents collected supports:
